The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is undergoing a significant leadership transition as the Oscars ceremony prepares for its shift to YouTube in 2029. Teni Melidonian, who has served as the chief Oscars officer and a key liaison between the Academy and Disney/ABC, is departing from her full-time role. She will, however, maintain an advisory capacity for the upcoming year.
This strategic reorganization, as communicated by AMPAS CEO Bill Kramer to staff, aims to streamline operations in anticipation of future milestones. Awards Production, Special Events, and Talent Relations will now be overseen by Jennifer Davidson, as part of the Marketing, Communications, and Content team. Concurrently, Member Screenings and Awards Ticketing responsibilities will be integrated into the Membership, Impact, and Industry team, led by Meredith Shea. This realignment is designed to foster enhanced collaboration, efficiency, and strategic coherence within the organization.
Kramer expressed profound gratitude for Melidonian's two decades of dedicated service, acknowledging her instrumental contributions to numerous Academy initiatives. Her legacy is expected to resonate within the organization for many years. This structural evolution underscores the Academy's commitment to adapting to an evolving media landscape, ensuring its continued relevance and impact in the global film and cultural community, particularly as it approaches its 100th anniversary and the historic move of the Oscars to a new broadcasting platform.
