Pluto Film, an international sales company, has successfully acquired the distribution rights for the new comedy feature titled 'Chica Checa'. This cinematic creation is slated for its global debut at the forthcoming Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, marking a significant entry into the international film circuit.
Helmed by writer-director Šimon Holý, 'Chica Checa' delves into the emotional journey of Zdena, a widowed mail carrier from a small Czech village, whose tranquil existence is upended when her son, Lukáš, returns from Paris. Lukáš reveals his true profession as a drag queen known as Chica Checa, a stark contrast to his mother's belief that he was a bank employee. Despite initial shock, Zdena's profound love for her son transcends societal norms and local gossip, underscoring the resilience of familial ties and the power of acceptance.
Holý, who also composed the film's score, articulated his team's aspiration to address challenging subjects with lightness and warmth, without compromising artistic integrity. He emphasized that the film, dedicated to their mothers, champions themes of intergenerational understanding, individual autonomy, and the courage to live authentically. This message resonates particularly strongly in contemporary global contexts where various rights are increasingly under scrutiny. The film features performances by Pavla Tomicová, Jan Cina, and Alexandra Borbély, and is a collaborative production involving Czech, Slovak, and French entities, supported by several European audiovisual funds.
This heartwarming narrative celebrates the strength of human connection and the journey of self-acceptance. It reminds us that empathy and open-mindedness can bridge generational gaps and challenge narrow perspectives, fostering a world where every individual feels empowered to embrace their true self without fear of judgment. Such stories serve as powerful affirmations of diversity and personal freedom, encouraging audiences to reflect on their own capacity for understanding and unconditional love.
