Nintendo is set to retire its popular mobile racing application, Mario Kart Tour, bringing an end to its online operations by the close of September. This decision marks a significant change for the game's dedicated player base.

The Final Lap: Mario Kart Tour's Journey Concludes

The Imminent End of Service for Mario Kart Tour

Nintendo has officially declared that the mobile title, Mario Kart Tour, will cease its online functionality on September 30th. The service termination is scheduled for 7 AM BST / 8 AM CET / 2 AM ET, and for players on the West Coast, 11 PM PT on September 29th. This announcement signals the conclusion of an era for the mobile racing game that has entertained players for several years.

No Offline Alternative on the Horizon

In contrast to other Nintendo mobile titles, such as Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which transitioned to a paid offline version after its online services ended in 2024, Nintendo has confirmed that there are no current plans for a similar offline iteration of Mario Kart Tour. This means that once the online services are terminated, the game will no longer be accessible for play.

Transitioning Out of Premium Features

As part of the wind-down process, all automatic renewals for the Gold Pass subscription were cancelled on July 7th. Subscribers with active memberships extending beyond this date will continue to receive benefits without charge until the service concludes. Additionally, all in-app sales of rubies have ceased. Players can still utilize their remaining rubies within the game's various shops, including the Spotlight Shop, Mii Racing Suit Shop, and Coin Rush, until the final closure date in September.

A Legacy of Innovation and Content

Since its debut in 2019, Mario Kart Tour consistently delivered fresh content and updates for four years, until the cessation of new content in 2023. Many of the innovative circuits introduced in the mobile game were later integrated into the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass, enriching the console experience. The game's active period also included a special, limited-time Mario Kart World-themed in-app event, marking a memorable highlight for its community.

Bidding Farewell to the Mobile Racing Experience

With less than three months remaining until its complete discontinuation, players are encouraged to enjoy their final races on the mobile platform. The game has provided a unique racing experience on handheld devices, and its departure will undoubtedly be felt by its community, who have cherished their time on its digital tracks.
