Strategic Scheduling Elevates Michigan State's Future Football Landscape

The Michigan State University (MSU) football team is enhancing its upcoming non-conference slate with a series of challenging matchups. The institution recently unveiled plans for home-and-home contests against both Oklahoma State University and the University of Cincinnati, in addition to a home game against Duquesne University from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

Exciting New Rivalries with Oklahoma State

MSU is scheduled to visit Oklahoma State on September 16, 2028, for their inaugural encounter in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Cowboys will then travel to Spartan Stadium on September 15, 2029, for the return game. This series was made possible after Oklahoma State had an opening in their schedule following the cancellation of a previously arranged series with Alabama, paving the way for this new, intriguing matchup.

Renewing Ties and Building New Traditions with Cincinnati

In the years following the Oklahoma State series, the Spartans will embark on a two-game set with Cincinnati. The first leg will see MSU travel to Cincinnati on September 14, 2030, followed by a home game against the Bearcats at Spartan Stadium on September 13, 2031. Despite the geographical proximity and historical connections through coaching figures like Mark Dantonio, these two programs have a limited shared history, having met only twice before, with games played in 1930 and 1946. This upcoming series promises to add new chapters to their rivalry.

Welcoming Duquesne for a Historic First Encounter

Adding to their 2027 calendar, Michigan State will host Duquesne on September 4, marking the first time these two teams will compete against each other. This game provides an opportunity for MSU to introduce a new opponent to its fans and continue building a diverse schedule.

Looking Ahead to the Pat Fitzgerald Era and the 2026 Season Kickoff

Coming off a 4-8 season, Michigan State is poised to begin a new chapter under coach Pat Fitzgerald. The 2026 season is scheduled to commence on September 5 with a home game against Toledo at Spartan Stadium, signaling the start of a fresh campaign and renewed aspirations for the program.
