Independence Day celebrations in 2026 attracted millions of television viewers, with major networks reporting significant audience increases for their patriotic programming. While many observed local pyrotechnic displays in person, a substantial number opted to join the festivities through televised broadcasts.

NBC's yearly Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks program experienced a remarkable surge in viewership as the United States commemorated its 250th anniversary. This iconic event garnered 11.2 million viewers across all platforms, including NBC, Telemundo, and Peacock, marking a 59 percent increase from the previous year and its highest viewership since 2018. The live NBC broadcast alone drew 5.1 million viewers, a 42 percent jump from 2025, and streaming on Peacock also saw more than double the engagement. Jen Neal, Executive Vice President of Live Events and Specials for NBC and Peacock, expressed pride in uniting the nation for this historic milestone through music, inspiring moments, and the cherished fireworks tradition, thanking Jesse Collins Entertainment for their contributions.

Fox News also reported an exceptionally strong performance, achieving its best-ever ratings for the Independence Day holiday. The network attracted 3.3 million primetime viewers and 2.2 million for the entire day, significantly surpassing its typical Saturday audience. The highest viewership for Fox News peaked at 5.5 million during former President Trump's speech. In contrast, CNN averaged 1.2 million viewers in primetime, while MS NOW, which typically does not air original weekend programming, drew 317,000. These figures demonstrate the widespread public interest in national holiday broadcasts and their capacity to captivate a diverse audience.

The impressive viewership figures for both NBC and Fox News on the Fourth of July reflect a collective desire to commemorate national identity and shared heritage. These broadcasts not only entertained but also served as a powerful medium for unifying communities, reinforcing the significance of such historical anniversaries in fostering a sense of pride and togetherness across the country.
